If you have ever wondered how the seabed of the Adriatic sounds, how the Atlantic Ocean breathes, or how ants, crickets, and wild bees from the magical Scottish island of Arran resonate when heard up close, this evening of ambient music is shaped precisely for that kind of curiosity. The program leads toward places that cannot be reached by foot but only by attentive listening, toward hidden aquatic archives, the microcosms of distant terrains, the quiet vibrations of landscapes that reveal themselves only when approached with care.
The author of the program, Manja Ristić — sound artist, composer, and curator will guide the audience through the sonic terrains of submerged and terrestrial worlds, across rivers and over mountains. Her musical interventions and electroacoustic compositions merge with treatments of unusual instruments such as hydrophones and electromagnetic microphones, as well as with subtle gestures of found objects. All of this unfolds into a singular listening practice that approaches sound as a living field of relations — a dynamic interplay of biophony, geophony, and anthropophony in which every sonic event emerges from the microenvironment that shapes it.
Manja’s biography reflects a long and multifaceted artistic trajectory. She graduated from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London. After a rich career in classical music, her work over the past decade has focused on interdisciplinary sound research, field recording, and experimental radio art. She has collaborated with international media institutions such as BBC, ORF, INA GRM, Radiophrenia, Kunstradio—Radiokunst, HRT, RTV Slovenia, Radio Belgrade, and many others. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the honorary Phonurgia Nova Award and the ULUS Golden Award for Expanded Media, and was shortlisted for the Académie Charles Cros Sélection Musiques Expérimentales 2024. She has curated programs for Ars Electronica (Austria), Cona Zavod (Slovenia), and CIFRA World (UAE).
