Global Conservatoire ~ Music, Sound, and Environment

ph by UPA Rostrum, Split

A guest lecture at the Global Conservatoire — kindly initiated by the wonderful Nicholas Moroz, composer and lecturer at the Royal College of Music, London.

We will discuss Water memory — mnemosonic topographies of the Adriatic: composing with environmental sound, conceptual listening, and interdisciplinary research in sound practices.

Water memory is a musical journey through the subtle relations between sound and aquatic habitats on the island of Korčula and its surrounding archipelago. From the heart of an ancient town to the island’s deepest wilderness, it gathers aquatic and sub-aquatic imprints captured with extended field recording techniques, gently woven into an emotionally charged 50‑minute ambient composition.

A beautifully designed booklet is available for free download. Among other things, it reflects on the vast history of limestone cutting and its material embeddedness in European cultural heritage — from monuments and temples to public squares and urban architecture, spanning an entire millennium.
